As a enthusiastic local history lover, I am pleased to see the announcement that Swansea Council is recognising the importance of protecting the city's history.
An outline of plans to repair local landmarks had been unveiled this month by Swansea Council and amongst those included in the 2014 action plan are the Roman Bridge at Blackpill, Singleton Park's Swiss Cottage, the laboratory building at the Hafod Morfa Copperworks' site, a grade two listed bridge off Mill Lane, a grade two star listed engine house and Scott's Pit in Birchgrove. There are 515 listed buildings and structures which are considered to be of architectural or historical importance within Swansea of which 48 are considered to be at risk. Of these, 25 are privately owned. One of these, the Palace Theatre on High Street, is described as being the subject of 'positive discussions' with its owners.
These buildings and structures are so important to out city's 'story'. Anything that can be done to save them for future generations is essential!
